INTERNATIONAL STUDENT VOLUNTEERS, Regional Director: August 2015-Present Yorba Linda, CA; IL, IN, WI, MN, MI

Regional Director for territory including Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Northern Michigan. Responsibilities include creating University profiles, creating action plans for marketing ISV programs, training and working with University Leaders to complete UL travel groups, working and training Student Reps on how to execute their recruitment efforts, and reaching out for partnerships between  University international programs, major league baseball teams, and ISV.

  • Created a one year and three year marketing plan for assigned territory to expand the growth of ISV.
  • Created university profiles and collaborated with ULs and Student Reps from 40+ universities in IL, IN, WI, MN, and MI.
  • Successfully mended a past conflict between Indiana University-Bloomington’s International Center and ISV and established a working relation between the two establishments.
  • Conducted a program presentation to the Milwaukee Brewer’s community outreach coordinator and bridged a budding partnership between the major league baseball team and ISV for projects in the Dominican Republic.

FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN, MobilePack Event Team Leader: January 2013-July 2015 Aurora, IL

Team leader for managing volunteer groups ranging from 50-400 volunteers each event. Responsibilities include maintaining positive host relations, organizing the set up of packing stations, presenting orientations to volunteers, delegating volunteers, presenting the ask for donations, and managing production and warehouse logistics.

  • Headed half of a 26 station event during an overnight 12 hour shift. Resulted in the success of the organization’s first one million meal production in 24 hours.
  • Adapted to logistical problems arisen from miscommunication between hosts and truck drivers during an event. Ensured the successful production of 108,864 meals on schedule while alerting the development team of ways to prevent similar logistical problems in the future.
  • Communicated and compromised differences between host views and logistical arrangements in Greenville, South Carolina. Ensured the host’s level of content with the event, maintained a positive host relation for future events, and exceeded the contracted goal of producing 250,000 meals.
  • Collaborated with other team leaders from Illinois, Minnesota, Arizona, and Georgia to successfully lead Mobilepack events in 35 states around the U.S., producing over 63 million meals in solely the Mobilepack division during the last fiscal year, the highest the organization has currently reached in its 26 years.

ANDREW JACKSON LANGUAGE ACADEMY,  Student Teacher: January 2015-April 2015 Chicago, IL

Primary teacher for a three subject, block-scheduled, fifth grade class. Responsibilities included creating lesson plans, assignments, and assessments while incorporating a variety of creative, student-centered activities.

  • Planned long and short term lessons for 8 weeks as the primary teacher during full-on teaching period. Submitted lesson plans on a weekly basis for approval and prepared all materials, coursework, and assessments for each lesson. Adapted lesson plans frequently to accommodate for cancellation of school days and standardized testing weeks to ensure that all material is taught in the shortened time frame given.
  • Organized student material for distribution and grading on all subjects. Resulted in the completion of grading 64 writing pieces, 64 social studies assessments, and 32 reading assignments on weekends on occasion in order to return material in a timely fashion.
  • Managed a classroom of 32 students at a time. Ensured order and respect in the classroom to maintain a successful learning environment. Resulted in successful lessons that included lectures, group work, partner work, and review games.
  • Communicated with administrators, teachers, aides, and parents to determine the strengths and weaknesses of individual students. Created short and long term goals that resulted in students receiving the appropriate materials and aid to achieve their maximum learning potential.

AMERICA READS,  Tutor: September 2009-May 2011                                                      Chicago, IL

Tutor for a classroom of 32 students. Responsibilities included aiding the classroom teacher during lessons, performing reading tests for the students, assisting lower level learners, and grading class work.

  • Collaborated with classroom teacher to assist teaching lower level learners. Completed reading tests with individual students and interventions when necessary. Resulted in the completion of reliable records for classroom teacher to create further learning materials.
  • Maintained order within the classroom resulting in an effective learning environment for classroom teacher to teach.
  • Organized student material and graded class work. Resulted in assignments being returned to students in a timely fashion.

HARRISON PARK DISTRICT, Mandarin Chinese Teacher: Fall 2010                                     Chicago, IL

Co-taught a Saturday language program for Mandarin Chinese. Responsibilities included creating lesson plans with the partner teacher, co-taught the class, and facilitated student behavior and learning.

  • Collaborated with partner teacher to create entertaining and educational activities for students to learn and practice their Mandarin Chinese listening, speaking, and writing skills.
  • Communicated with students on how they learn best and planned lessons to their preferences. Resulted in increased levels of participation and enthusiastic learning.
  • Adapted lessons to best fit diverse learners and learning levels, prepared differentiated materials resulting in individual students’ abilities to learn at their own pace and understand the materials thoroughly.

Primary teacher for an afterschool English language program. Responsibilities included creating lesson plans, implementing the lessons, assessing, and grading student work.

  • Planned culturally appropriate lessons to a class of five students during the afterschool English program. Implemented teaching strategies used in both China and the United States, resulting in students’ engaged learning of material and enthusiasm in participation.
  • Created long and short term goals for students to achieve by the end of the program and by the end of each week. Collaborated with students on plans to reach the goals, resulting in test preparedness and high performing assessments.
  • Collaborated with other teachers and administrators when collecting materials to ensure a variety of options for students’ learning. Resulted in a variety of materials in digital, print, and audio form for each learning unit.
  • Communicated with parents about their child’s strengths and weaknesses and how they could help their students at home. Resulted in well informed and involved parents who furthered the students’ English learning at home.
